Sometimes we’re quite happy to go along with whatever the latest trends and fashions are. Other times, we’re not so content to follow the crowd. When whatever is in fashion doesn’t speak to us, we want to look elsewhere: and that usually means, looking inward to determining what we really want. Though it’s not an easy task, finding a style that is very much our own and in line with who we are is an important part of having confidence and showing the world what we’re about.
Look at Other People
We should look inward when we’re trying to find a new sense of style, but we should also look at other people. You’re not going to come up with a completely original look: you’re going to build on what’s been before. By looking at other people, you’ll get ideas about what you like and what you don’t like, and then incorporate those ideas into your wardrobe. It’s always a good idea to make a mental note of the clothes that people you think look good are wearing. Pinterest and Instagram are key for me here, there’s always celebrities and other bloggers that are wearing the latest trends. You can pick out the bits you like and make it your own!
Trying Out Different Styles
You don’t have to settle on one style or one way of dressing. You should try out different styles until you find the one that’s right for you. It’s fun to play around with our identity every now and again, trying on different ‘personas’ until we find one that we feel at home in. Eventually, that style can get old and then we go through the process of updating our style.
Making It Your Own
You might not be able to find a wholly original style, but there’s more capacity to put a completely original spin on your style that you might think. If you’re handy with a sewing machine, you can take items of clothes and alter them to fit in line with your style. You can also have custom made jewellery designed, which enables you to have a piece that is just right for your outfit. All in all, it’s about adding our own personal spin on our style; even if there are many others doing similar things, it’ll always be your own look.
You’re mostly like not an expert in fashion. There are always things to be learned; even the most fashionable people get help! As such, don’t be afraid to ask other people for their assistance. Find someone whose opinion on fashion you trust and ask them for feedback on your sense of style. You don’t have to necessarily take their advice, but if you’re armed with more than just your opinion, you’ll be a better position to make fashion decisions.
What Do You Want To Project?
There’s a lot of good styles out there, but they won’t all suit you. It’s about feeling comfortable in what you’re wearing, and we can only feel comfortable if the image we’re projecting through our clothes matches who we are as a person, and what we personally want to project to the world. Ask yourself this question, and you’ll be one step closer to finding your style.
