My Tips on going from Desk to Drinks

We’ve all been in the unenviable position of having to go out right after work – whether it’s for a friend’s birthday party or the office’s Christmas celebration or someone’s leaving drinks, you often need to make a hasty change. Here are some tips to help…

Keep Supplies With You

If you often go out after work without much warning, then it’s a good idea to keep a small kit with you at work that will help you to freshen up after a long day spent at your desk in a stuffy room. Fill a small makeup bag with a few items that will help you to feel fresher at the end of the day – I also have a toothbrush and toothpaste under my desk as normal!  If you really want to feel better about yourself and revamp your look, you could also keep some spare tights and some new shoes in there – slipping into some heels after a day spent in flats will make you feel like a whole new person.

Go For Layers

No one wants to show up for work in a party dress, so it’s usually best to cover up. If you’re wearing a sparkly shirt for a birthday party that evening, throw on a boyfriend cardigan to stay warm at the office and to dress it down a little. Likewise, if you’re wearing a shorter dress or skirt than usual, keep it professional in opaque black tights. Sweaters will always help you if you’re wearing something a little tighter than is strictly work appropriate.

Add Accessories

The most important thing you can do at the end of the day to spruce up your appearance is to add some accessories which will add some extra style and glamour to your overall look. If you don’t have any jewellery which can add some sparkle to your work clothes, then why not look online for some ideas? Items from sites like are popular and will brighten up your outfit. You could also ditch your work briefcase for your favourite handbag instead.

Top Up Your Makeup

Finally, if you want to head straight to a party from the office then remember that one of the best ways to do it is by taking over the mirror in the work bathroom for twenty minutes to completely redo your makeup. Not only will it make you feel fresher, but taking that time out between work and socialising will help you relax before you need to go and be sociable after a long day.

If you don’t have much time to do a full face, then put on some primer to keep your makeup in place, followed by some BB cream, eyebrow pencil and mascara. If you’re confident in your makeup skills then why not do a cat eye with liquid eyeliner? Just make sure you have some cotton buds on hand for any wobbles!
