After last week’s slap up meal we were invited out again! Obviously we said yes and Pete was very pleased we got to explore more of Newcastle too. With him just moving up here there are still al lot of places he hasn’t been!
This time it was Fratello’s in Jesmond, an Italian restaurant that’s part of a very small chain. When we arrived we were greeted with lovely pull apart bread and some olives, delicious!
We were sat next to a window on this bright summer’s evening. Perfect for people watching – one of my favourite pastimes! For drinks it was a beer and a lovely mocktail for me. It tasted of strawberries and summer.
As a starter, I had the super size king prawns with chilli dip and a lemony mayonnaise. I usually go for a fish dish when we go out as we don’t eat much fish at home.
I went a little exotic for the main and chose a lobster ravioli. I’d seen it being made on TV shows and always wanted to try lobster – now was the perfect time. It didn’t taste like what I expected it to, but it was gorgeous all the same.
Pete went for a pizza overload, lots of mozzarella, mixed meats and a savoury jam on there. He nearly ate it all, I’ve never seen such a thing happen! I had a try too and loved it, the flavours were picked out perfectly and well balanced with the sweet and salt.
We had a lovely time at Fratellos, the atmosphere was so relaxed and friendly. It’s not the type of place that has waiters running about, or a room that’s so loud you have to shout over eachother. It’s perfect for a family meal or a gathering with a group of friends. Definitely worth a visit.
